Our engineers can start from a product concept and undertake detailed electrical and mechanical design to produce a product set of drawings and bill of materials. Alternatively Virelec can use its manufacturing experience to provide mechanical layout and construction drawings to form a complete product package that is constructible, cost effective and easy to maintain.
Even with custom, low volume products, Virelec can offer many of the features of standard product, large volume manufacturing such as product and component level traceability, drawing standardization and revision control as well as component stocking. This is achieved with Virelec’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and its ISO 9001 registered quality control system.
Virelec’s protection and control background ensures its custom products are delivered with the quality and reliability expected of power system components. This is vital in today’s environment of grid modernization where new devices and technology are being rapidly piloted and deployed on the power system.
Typically Virelec develops a product to the client’s specification. Prototypes are built, tested and submitted for approval. Following approval, part numbers and bills of material are created as are any specialised assembly and test instructions. When lead times are critical, component parts are inventoried.
Examples of custom products that Virelec supplies are:
The products all use design principles and component parts specific to the industry application including for example, utility-grade relays, high interrupt current fuses, and sub-station hardened power supplies.
Virelec adds value in allowing customers to purchase a custom product using preferred components from a variety of suppliers by placing one order and taking delivery in a short time frame. One supplier one responsibility, together with Virelec’s reputation for service.
